The Best Oktoberfest German Beer Festivals in Austin, Fredericksburg, New Braunfels, and Beyond
The rich German heritage of Central Texas has given us some of the best Oktoberfest celebrations in the country. Every fall, small towns, breweries, beer gardens, and historic German singing societies across the Texas Hill Country break out the lederhosen, fire up the polka bands, and start pouring plenty of cold German beer.
While the original Oktoberfest in Munich begins in September, the Texas celebration stretches from late September through October and into November. That gives us nearly two months of opportunities to enjoy German food, traditional music, stein-holding competitions, and some good old-fashioned Texas beer drinking.
From the lively beer gardens of Austin’s Rainey Street to the historic German communities of Fredericksburg and New Braunfels, there’s an Oktoberfest celebration for just about everyone.
Our favorite part about Oktoberfest season in Texas is that you don’t have to attend just one. With festivals scattered across different weekends, you can spend the fall exploring the Hill Country while enjoying a different celebration almost every week.
We’ve put together our guide to some of the best Oktoberfest celebrations in Central Texas for 2026, including festival dates, locations, and a few personal recommendations.
The festivals are listed in chronological order, beginning with Banger’s Oktoberfest on Rainey Street and ending with the grand finale: Wurstfest in New Braunfels.
Banger’s Oktoberfest on Rainey Street – Austin
September 25–27, 2026
One of the first major Oktoberfest celebrations of the season in Austin takes place at Banger’s Sausage House & Beer Garden on historic Rainey Street. If you enjoy German beer, live music, and an enthusiastic crowd, Banger’s is an excellent place to kick off the season.
For 2026, Banger’s is hosting a three-day Oktoberfest celebration from Friday, September 25, through Sunday, September 27. Admission is free, with German-inspired food specials, live music, stein-holding competitions, and other beer garden festivities scheduled throughout the weekend.
Banger’s is already known for its extensive beer selection and house-made sausages, making it a natural fit for an Oktoberfest celebration.During the festival, expect plenty of German-style beer, bratwurst, lederhosen, and some of the liveliest beer garden entertainment in Austin. The 2026 entertainment lineup includes polka bands, Cajun music, and other live performances throughout the weekend. The venue is also family-friendly and welcomes pets, making this an Oktoberfest where you can bring the whole crew.
The location on Rainey Street is another big advantage. Once you’ve had your fill of German beer and sausage, there are plenty of other bars and restaurants within walking distance.
Banger’s Oktoberfest is a great way to begin a Texas Oktoberfest marathon without even leaving Austin.
Location: 79 Rainey Street, Austin, Texas

Fredericksburg Oktoberfest
October 2–4, 2026
Fredericksburg is one of the most German towns in Texas, so it should come as no surprise that its annual Oktoberfest is one of the major celebrations of the season.
The festival takes place in downtown Fredericksburg at Marktplatz, the same beautiful public square that hosts many of the town’s other festivals throughout the year. This three-day celebration features German music, traditional dancing, food vendors, beer, arts and crafts, and family-friendly activities.
Fredericksburg was settled by German immigrants in the 1840s, and the town has maintained much of its German heritage through its architecture, food, breweries, and festivals. Oktoberfest is one of the best times of the year to experience that heritage.
The downtown festival features large beer tents and several stages of entertainment, with traditional German bands and polka music keeping things lively throughout the weekend. You’ll also find plenty of German food, including bratwurst, schnitzel, potato pancakes, sauerkraut, pretzels, and other festival favorites. If you have a little extra time, spend the afternoon exploring Fredericksburg’s Main Street, where you’ll find German restaurants, wine-tasting rooms, shops, and plenty of places to grab another beer.
Don’t Miss Altstadt Brewery
While you’re in Fredericksburg, make time to visit Altstadt Brewery on US Highway 290. The brewery features impressive German-inspired architecture, a beautiful beer hall, German-style beers, and a restaurant serving food that fits right in with an Oktoberfest weekend. Even when Oktoberfest isn’t happening, Altstadt is a fun place to enjoy a little German atmosphere in the Texas Hill Country.
A Word About Fredericksburg Hotel Prices
One thing to keep in mind is that Fredericksburg hotel rooms can get expensive during major festivals. We once paid more than $250 for a pretty lousy hotel room during one of the town’s wine festivals. The town is a popular weekend destination, and room prices can climb quickly when a big event is taking place. If you plan to stay overnight during Oktoberfest, book your accommodations early.
You can also consider staying in a nearby Hill Country town and driving into Fredericksburg for the day.
Location: Marktplatz, Downtown Fredericksburg, Texas
Festival hours: Friday, 6 p.m.–midnight; Saturday, 10 a.m.–midnight; Sunday, 11 a.m.–6 p.m.

Granbury Oktoberfest
October 2–4, 2026
If you’re looking for a smaller-town alternative to the busy Oktoberfest celebrations in Fredericksburg, consider making a trip to Granbury. Although Granbury is located in North Central Texas rather than the Hill Country, its historic downtown square makes it a worthwhile addition to a Texas Oktoberfest road trip. Granbury Oktoberfest takes place over the same weekend as Fredericksburg’s celebration.
For 2026, the Historic Granbury Merchants Association has scheduled Oktoberfest for October 2–4 on the historic downtown square. The celebration brings together local vendors, food, seasonal beer, and live entertainment in one of the more charming downtown settings in Texas.
Granbury has a different atmosphere from the larger Oktoberfest celebrations.Rather than spending the entire weekend inside a massive beer tent, you can wander around the historic courthouse square, visit local shops, explore restaurants and bars, and enjoy the festivities at your own pace. The town also has the advantage of being located on Lake Granbury, making it an excellent destination for a longer weekend getaway.
If you want to experience Oktoberfest without committing to the larger crowds and hotel prices associated with Fredericksburg, Granbury is worth considering.

Beethoven Männerchor Oktoberfest – San Antonio
October 2–3 and October 9–10, 2026
San Antonio has a rich German history, and the Beethoven Männerchor is one of the city’s most recognizable German cultural institutions. Founded in 1867, the organization has been preserving German music, language, and cultural traditions for more than 150 years. Its historic Beethoven Halle und Garten provides a wonderful setting for an Oktoberfest celebration.
For 2026, the Beethoven Männerchor is holding Oktoberfest festivities over two weekends: October 2–3 and October 9–10.
The celebration features traditional German bands, singing, dancing, ceremonial keg tapping, stein-holding competitions, and plenty of German food and beer. The Beethoven Concert Band, Beethoven German Band, and the organization’s singing groups help give this celebration an atmosphere that is different from a typical brewery Oktoberfest. Rather than simply offering German beer and a few food specials, the Beethoven Männerchor brings together the musical and cultural traditions that make Oktoberfest such a memorable event.
We’ve yet to make it to this particular Oktoberfest, but it’s high on our list of festivals to check out.
With two weekends of festivities, it’s also a convenient option if you’re trying to attend several Oktoberfest celebrations in one season.
Location: Beethoven Halle und Garten, 422 Pereida Street, San Antonio, Texas

Austoberfest at Scholz Garten and Saengerrunde Hall – Austin
October 3, 2026
You don’t have to leave Austin to experience a traditional German Oktoberfest. Austoberfest, hosted by the Austin Saengerrunde in partnership with Scholz Garten, brings German music, food, beer, and cultural traditions to one of the city’s most historic gathering places. The 2026 celebration takes place Saturday, October 3, from noon until 10 p.m.
A Little Austin History
Scholz Garten was founded in 1866 by German immigrant August Scholz and is recognized as the oldest continuously operating tavern in Texas. For more than 150 years, it has been a gathering place for Austinites, from state workers and politicians to University of Texas students, alumni, and football fans. Its German heritage makes it a fitting location for one of Austin’s best-known Oktoberfest celebrations.
What to Expect at Austoberfest
Austoberfest combines the atmosphere of a traditional German beer garden with Austin’s live music culture. The 2026 festival includes live music throughout the day, German-style beer, stein-holding competitions, historic bowling lanes, and a sausage competition featuring Central Texas sausage makers.
Scheduled performers include Two Tons of Steel, Sour Bridges, Off the Grid, and DJ Vegan Leather. The sausage competition is particularly interesting. Local sausage makers bring their creations to the festival, allowing visitors to sample different styles and vote for their favorites. There are also activities for children earlier in the afternoon, making Austoberfest an option for families as well as adults looking to enjoy a day in the beer garden. And because Scholz Garten is close to the Texas Capitol and the University of Texas campus, it’s easy to combine the festival with a day exploring downtown Austin.
Location: Scholz Garten and Austin Saengerrunde, 1607 San Jacinto Boulevard, Austin, Texas
Time: Noon–10 p.m.

Boerne Oktoberfest
October 10, 2026 – Free Roam Brewing Company
Boerne is another Texas Hill Country town with deep German roots and a great selection of local breweries, restaurants, and beer gardens. It’s also one of our favorite places to enjoy a smaller, more relaxed Oktoberfest celebration. Unlike the massive festivals in Fredericksburg and New Braunfels, Boerne’s brewery celebrations can offer a more intimate atmosphere where you can enjoy traditional music, German beer, and good company without navigating enormous festival grounds.
We’ve attended one of the smaller Oktoberfest celebrations held in a local bar courtyard and had a great time listening to some of the same musicians who perform at the larger Hill Country festivals. The hotel rooms were also much more reasonably priced than what we’ve experienced during major Fredericksburg festival weekends.
Boerne Oktoberfest in 2026
For 2026, Free Roam Brewing Company has scheduled an Oktoberfest celebration for Saturday, October 10, beginning at noon. The brewery is located on South Main Street in downtown Boerne and offers an outdoor beer garden and regular live music.
Cibolo Creek Brewing Company is another brewery worth checking for Oktoberfest festivities. The brewery has hosted German-themed celebrations featuring food specials, live music, and stein-holding competitions, although a specific 2026 date has not yet been confirmed.
If you enjoy the atmosphere of a smaller-town Oktoberfest, Boerne makes a great day trip from San Antonio or Austin. You can spend the afternoon exploring historic Main Street, enjoy dinner at one of the local restaurants, and finish the evening with a few beers at a German-inspired celebration.

Wurstfest – New Braunfels
November 6–15, 2026
And now for the grand finale!
Wurstfest in New Braunfels is the big daddy of Texas Hill Country Oktoberfest celebrations. If you’re only going to attend one German festival this fall, Wurstfest deserves serious consideration. The annual festival takes place over ten days and two full weekends in November, bringing together German food, traditional music, cold beer, dancing, carnival rides, and thousands of visitors.
Ten Days of German Beer, Food, and Music
Unlike the smaller Oktoberfest celebrations that take place over a single afternoon or weekend, Wurstfest is an enormous celebration spread across multiple entertainment areas. The festival grounds are located near the Comal River in New Braunfels, a town that has proudly maintained its German heritage since its founding in 1845.
Visitors can explore large beer halls, outdoor seating areas, food booths, carnival attractions, and multiple music stages. Traditional German bands, polka musicians, and other entertainers perform throughout the festival. The Wurstfest grounds also provide plenty of room to wander between the different venues, grab a bite to eat, and find your favorite place to enjoy the music. And the food is a major part of the experience. Expect plenty of bratwurst, sausage, potato pancakes, sauerkraut, pretzels, and other German-inspired dishes.
Wash everything down with a cold beer, find a table near one of the stages, and settle in for an afternoon of music and entertainment.
Wurstfest’s Rebuilt Festival Grounds
Wurstfest has experienced some major challenges over the past several years. Just days after the 2019 festival ended, a devastating fire destroyed the historic Marktplatz area and extensively damaged the nearby Wursthalle. The COVID-19 pandemic then forced the cancellation of the 2020 festival. Fortunately, the additional time allowed organizers to complete reconstruction of the damaged facilities before the festival returned in 2021. The rebuilt festival grounds welcomed visitors back with new facilities while preserving the German character that has made Wurstfest such a long-running Texas tradition.
Planning Your Wurstfest Visit
Wurstfest is particularly convenient because it takes place over two full weekends. You can visit for a single afternoon, spend an entire weekend in New Braunfels, or make multiple trips during the ten-day celebration. The festival also offers free admission on Monday through Thursday evenings, making a weekday visit worth considering if you’re looking for a less expensive alternative to a busy Saturday.
Hotel rooms in New Braunfels can fill up during the festival, especially on weekends. Consider booking early or looking for accommodations in nearby San Marcos, Seguin, or San Antonio if you’re planning an overnight trip. You can also find some shuttle trip from Austin.
Explore the Texas Hill Country’s Breweries During Oktoberfest Season
The major festivals are only part of the fun.
Central Texas has a huge selection of local breweries, German restaurants, and beer gardens, many of which host their own Oktoberfest celebrations during September and October. Some release special Oktoberfest-style beers, while others bring in German bands, organize stein-holding competitions, or put together special menus featuring bratwurst and traditional German food.
You don’t necessarily need to attend a major festival to have a great Oktoberfest experience.
In fact, some of our favorite afternoons have been spent enjoying a cold beer at a smaller Hill Country brewery, listening to live music, and visiting with the locals.
Keep an eye on breweries around Fredericksburg, Boerne, Dripping Springs, New Braunfels, and Austin for additional seasonal celebrations.
Some of these events are announced only a few weeks before they take place, so it’s worth checking individual brewery websites and social media pages throughout the fall.
You might just discover a hidden gem that becomes your new favorite Oktoberfest destination.
Plan Your 2026 Texas Oktoberfest Road Trip
With so many celebrations spread across the calendar, you can enjoy German beer and music in a different Texas town almost every weekend. Start the season at Banger’s on Rainey Street in late September, head to Fredericksburg or Granbury during the first weekend of October, and explore the smaller celebrations in Austin, San Antonio, and Boerne as the month progresses. Then, when you think you’ve had your fill of bratwurst, polka music, and giant beer steins, head to New Braunfels for ten more days of German festival fun at Wurstfest.
Whether you’re looking for a massive celebration with thousands of visitors or a small-town beer garden where everyone feels like a local, Texas has an Oktoberfest for you.
Grab your lederhosen, bring a few friends, and enjoy one of our favorite times of the year to explore the Texas Hill Country.
