Santa is coming to town, and he is has been busy dropping off presents all over the place this year. Amazon should decorate their trucks like big red sleighs to help spread the much needed holiday cheer. While we have made it out in small ways for in-person shopping, it’s been mainly and online Christmas so far.
Favorite Local Destinations
Fredericksburg
has there downtown light display through Jan 6. It looked very impressive on their website, so we are probably going to check it out. The have a lighting ceremonies at pm every night and it runs through Jan 6. Out last trip out there, the bars and streets started to fill up about the time we left.
Johnson City
has really picked up it’s nightlife game the past few years, expanding as the flood of vineyard, breweries, and distilleries have sprung up all over the Fredericksburg region. They also have a lights show now in their small quant downtown scene.
Gruene is always very cool during the holidays, it’s a great place to shop, grab some delicious food, and take in a quality free and low cost live music. They are typical one of the first to light the tree, with their Santa knows as “Coyboy Kringle”
Marble Falls
A walk of lights is up with social distancing a thing of the past in these parts.
Austin
Spectacular light shows in downtown and at the race track. The Nutcracker and many other events make the big city a fun place during the holiday season.
San Antonio
The River walk is always cool, and the decorations are worth the trip this time of year.
Austin Trail of light
This event typical will sell out quickly before Christmas and the weekends, It’s drive with your car in 2021, hopefully a walk with a mask thing in 2022.
Circuit of the Americas Lights
The race track in got in on the action last year with their own drive through lights display. The “Peppermint Parkway” should be a solid option in 2021 and you have the option for drive through or old fashion walking around
The Nutcracker in Austin
Ballet Austin and the Long Center located on the south lake front in the heart of downtown are back this season with their outstanding production of this Christmas classic. Seats are normally tough to get, but there were still some available directly from the Ballet companies website for most days.
Schlitterbahn’s Hill Country Christmas
I don’t think you can go “water parking” in December. But the famous water park now has some sort of lights and Christmas display inside the park. Tickets are $15. The event is open daily December 18, 2009 through January 3, 2010 (except Christmas Eve and Christmas Day). The park opens at 5pm. Closing times vary.
A Doublewide, Texas Christmas at Hill Country Community Theatre
Located in Cottonwood Texas, a few miles from Marble Falls.
Six Flags Fiesta
We just love amusement parks in general, and this is big daddy of the parks in the Texas Hill Country. The Coaster – Great, and they always have some sort of theme for the park. Their Christmas effort is nice.
