Cliff Jumping at Lake Travis

Share

Lake Travis is a huge lake that winds throught the Texas Hill County on the Colorado River. The end of the line for Lake Travis is in the outskirts of Austin. The main Cliff jumping area is located about 1/2 up the lake in Pace Bend Park, about 20 miles up 71 on the Souther part of the river near the town of Spicewood.

Lake Travis Cliff Jumping Locations

Pace Bend park has two areas with Cliffs you can jump off of into the lake. Some of them are located next to the camground sites, and you can access them from your car. We typical take our boat drop an ancor and find a place where there is an easy climb. The West side of the park has some of the more moderate and easier to climb locatons, but it has been closed off for a while because of COVID, and then the low lake levels. The East side of the park near the entrerance has a few places to jump, including some scary hight locations that are too extreme for me.

Watch the Lake Levels

For several years now, lake travis has been only about 1/2 full, and that makes cliff jumping pretty dangerous for a few reasons. For one, some of the locations that were once 20 – 30 ft off the water are now 50-70 feet off the water. There is also more debris and other obstaces in locations that were once safe. For these reason, we have not been in a few years. Just recently in 2025, the Lake has once again filled up, so I’m anxious to make it back out for some fishing, camping, and cliff jumping.

Our first to Travis with the Kids

The little ones at Texas Hill Country Surf are not that found of fishing. So we got them out of bed a little after dawn and headed to Pace Bend Park for some boating fun. The Lake Travis agenda for the day included tubing behind the boat and jumping off cliffs.

After a few hours of giving everybody a ride on the tube, we headed to one of our favorite spots. On the West side of the state park, there are campgrounds and small roads that lead to the Cliffs. Our Cliff of choice, is one cove north of the western boat ramp. There is a large lip overhang, and a moderlty easy rock climb back to the top. I would guess the drop is about 25-40 feet depeding on the lake level.  Today, the drop was as low as i’v seen it, as Lake Travis is higher than normal.

Other Cool Place to jump in the Texas Hill Country

Inks Lake has one of the best Cliff jumping spots in the Hill Country. Located off the hiking trail. There are several levels to jump from, including one that is 70 feet or so. It also has a nice deep landing pool under it. Every time I have been, there have been a few dare devils making crazy dives off the top shelf.
