Austin Superbowl Watch Parties

Red Solo cups, fireworks, and red white and blue. Three staples of one of the biggest American holidays that define our culture, the fourth of July; A holiday that is exclusively celebrated in the USA and is a day to put aside the differences we face and celebrate our country. However, there is one day that is arguably the biggest day in America, and the poster of American culture; The Superbowl.

The Superbowl has woven itself into almost every American household, it’s one of the biggest events of the year for not only football fans but also corporations and businesses. The Superbowl is a 9 million dollar enterprise that generates lots of money for the players, TV networks, as well as the sponsors, and ads that play in between the game. This year, amongst a lot of controversy running through our news, and lots of large conflict throughout our world, the Superbowl is destined to be a big day for football fans this year to escape those issues. So what teams are playing this year?

Philadelphia Vs. Kansas City: Why is it so important?

This year, the game is a rematch between the Philidelphia Eagles vs. the Kansas City Chiefs, when in 2022, the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Eagles 35-38. While the Chiefs have been pioneering the Superbowl the past three years, the Eagles are here to give them a run for their money.

Philadelphia Eagles that are a force to be reckoned with.

With players such as A.J Brown, who averages 16 yards per catch, Jalen Carter, who CBS Sports describes as one of the NFL’s “most disruptive talents”, and some duos such as Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson, who help make up one mean front. Despite the loss they faced to the Eagles in 2022, it wouldn’t be surprising if they became a force to be reckoned with.

Kansas City Chiefs that despite the game, aren’t here to play

On the other half of the stadium, however, the Chiefs have notable players such as Nick Bolton, who is one hell of a run defender, Trent McDuffie, one of the top 3 cornerbacks in the NFL this year, as well as the man himself; The one who brought his team out of the world of sports and into the spotlight of non-football fans by dating the biggest celebrity of the 2020s, Travis Kelsey, who led the team with 97 receptions.

Philadelphia Eagles Vs. The Chiefs, are you ready?

Two teams with some great players, facing a second showdown in the New Orleans Superdome, it will be a showdown that everyone will want to watch. Can the Eagles match the Chiefs strategy game? Or will the Chiefs be able to contain the Eagles new running back, a feat that teams all season have failed to do? Will the Eagles avenge their loss, or will the Chiefs keep their winning streak? We’ll see on February 9th, when the two teams will throw it down, play against each other, and see which team will bring home the trophy and the glory.

Hyped up? Here’s the lowdown on watch parties

But what about actually watching the Super Bowl? I mean, the day isn’t just about the football, it’s about hanging out with your friends and family, drinking, and eating some Superbowl staples. Some people choose to watch the Superbowl at their house, make some food, stream the game, and invite their friends over. However, another option is to go out to a sports bar, sit down, order some drinks and food, and enjoy the game without the pressure of cooking and hosting. If that sounds good, here are some of the best sports bars to think about watching this riveting game this weekend in Austin.

Pluckers

Hungry for some wings? Pluckers is definitely the place to go if your Superbowl food of choice is chicken wings. Pluckers is a sports wing bar, that frequently streams games while serving different food and drink options. They have countless wing flavor options ranging from Buffalo of different spice levels, Teriyaki, Gold rush, lemon pepper, and many more. Not only that, they have fried pickles, nacho fries, fried macaroni, and mozzarella sticks if you’re in the mood for some appetizers. In addition to the food, they have many beer options with a 40oz jug option, as well as some notable cocktails like the Batman and Psychedelic Frog. One thing to say is that Pluckers is a very popular sports bar of choice among Austinites, and the wait can reach up to an hour and a half long wait, and most of those people aren’t leaving the restaurant until the game is over, so if Pluckers is your place to be this year, make sure to get their early. But, if you don’t want to be at the restaurant, they do have an option to have some nice wings to buy and enjoy at your own home during the game.

Armadillo Den

Not in the mood for wings, or can you and your friends not agree on what to eat? Not a problem, watch the Superbowl at Armadillo den. Armadillo Den is an outside place to eat with some different food trucks that serve burgers, pizza, tacos, cajun classics, and even sushi. Not only that, they have cold beer and some craft cocktails. Because it’s outside, they also allow well-behaved dogs. Just in case you and your friends want to take your watch party to Armadillo Den and give their grownup drinks a try, let’s be safe and call a rideshare app to get to and from the den. By using a rideshare app, Armadillo Den gives you 10% off of your tab, and you return to your house safe and sound without having to deal with a parking nightmare, all while getting a nice discount on your drinks.

Via 313

What if you’re in the mood for some craft pizza and a nice atmosphere? Check out Via 313. Via 313 is a pizza restaurant with different pizzas that are all served in many different styles, but they’re famous for serving some genuine Detriot-style pizza. Not only that, they also have craft cocktails and local brews for beer. Via 313 is a solid option for anyone who wants to ditch the deliveries for pizza, and enjoy some high-quality pizza that is made right and with love for superbowl weekend. Just in case your friends might not want to enjoy this legendary pizza with you, Armadillo Den also has a Via 313 food truck to enjoy with your friends.

Shoal Creek Saloon

Let’s talk about a place that serves some food that the people in Philadelphia watching their home team play the Chiefs, but that the natives in New Orleans where the game is hosted will be enjoying while watching the game. That of course is Cajun Food. Shoal Creek Saloon serves excellent cajun food ranging from Gumbo and Po-Boys, to cajun-style burgers, as well as fried seafood. It’s also a lucky time since the Crawfish boil season has started up, so there’s a chance that you could also enjoy some boiled crawfish during the game. However, don’t entirely count on it, since crawfish can be harder to acquire early in the crawfish fishing season. But even without the crawfish, the food at Shoal Creek Saloon is a fine choice for your Superbowl watch party.

Star Bar

What about a bar, not everyone wants to watch the game in a place where places are mainly food places. Let’s talk about the Star Bar, where you can get some high-quality cocktails, a variety of brews from Bud Light to the local (512) amber, imported and domestic cans, wines, and selzters. The Star Bar is a great place if you’re looking for a fun time this Superbowl, and just in case you get a little hungry, or need something to counteract their delicious drinks, they also have a Via 313 you can get some pizza from.

Chalmers

What about a Texas Classic? Well don’t worry about that, Chalmers has some high-quality drinks and cocktails and also serves some BBQ which will be a great Superbowl meal this year. Chalmers is an East Austin Oasis that serves some classic BBQ such as meat by the pound, sandwiches, and tacos. Whether or not you go for the drinks or the food, you will not regret spending your Superbowl day here enjoying the game.

Holey Moley

Let’s talk about someplace that some might not think of when they’re trying to figure out where to go for their Superbowl watch party, Mini Golf. Holey Moley is a Minigolf attraction, that also has other events and a bar-and-food where you can enjoy your Superbowl, while also having a blast playing some minigolf, with your friends.

Black Gold

What about a classic restaurant where you can eat some food and watch the game, well this is the place for you. A little bit more of a fancy option than its predecessors, Black Gold sells classics like sandwiches, ribs, burgers, and even some steak cuts. This is a nice choice if you want to spend your Superbowl Sunday in style. Just in case you want something to drink, they have a fine choice of beers and cocktails, but it’s still a good choice even if you want a dry Superbowl.
