The Texas Hill County music venue scene is legendary. From small town dance halls to the collection of large stadiums in Austin and San Antonio, there is always a chance to partake in some outstanding live music. Shows can be found 7 days a week 365 days a year in this music paradise. Gas Stations, BBQ Restaurants, Clubs, Honky Tonks, and grocery stores are just some of the local businesses that get in on the action. Our list is just some of our very favorite music venues in the Texas Hill Country.
Fredericksburg Crossroads Steak House has a very nice bar and an elevated stage for bands. The food is also outstanding, with a fancy steak house atmosphere at a somewhat reasonable cost. One of our favorite music venues in the Texas Hill Country.
Luckenbach Texas music hall – Probably the most famous of the hill country music venues. There really isn’t a town of “Luckenbach” beyond the general store\music hall. Some big time county acts like to make an appearance from time to time.
Gruene Music Hall – Billed at the oldest dance hall in Texas. Located in the heart of the Historic District of Gruene Texas. The town a handful of restaurants, bars, shopping, wineries, and live music. There are a few bed and breakfasts and a little more of a night life than most of the other Hill Country Towns. The music venue lands some big country acts and other cools shows like Trombone Shorty. Located on the Guadalupe River just before the town of New Braunfels.
Whitewater Amphitheater – A large amphitheater located at a campground on the Guadalupe River, a few miles downstream from the Canyon Lake Dam. There are shows most weekends during the spring and summer. Willie Nelson normally plays on weekends in the spring.
11th Street Cowboy Bar – Bandera, TX It home to the Texas Hill Country version of Mardi Gras, Cowboy Mardi Gras. A very cool place.
Angel’s Icehouse – Just outside of Austin on S. 71 highway near Lake Travis. The have bands inside the bar area and plenty of room a playgrounds for the kids. Good food and more of a restaurant than a bar.
Poodie’s – Just down the road on 71 from Angel’s, the legendary music venue is more of a bar than a restaurant.
Kerrville Home to the one of the biggest music fests of the year in the Texas Hill Country. It also features a theater with a symphony series each year.

Brass Hall A nice place for music the heart of downtown Marble Falls
Globe Theater in Bertram. This was an old movie theater that has just been restored and opened with music, comedy, and classic film showings. It’s on our short list of places to check out. globetheatretx.com
Twin Sisters Dance Hall Located just South of Blanco, Twin Sisters claims to be the oldest dance hall in Texas, opening in 1870. Visit www.twinsistersdancehall.com for more information.
Reverend Jim’s Dam Pub Live Music and views of the dam. This is hot spot in the summer and nice weekends in the Lake Buchanan area.
Cheatham Street Warehouse – Located in San Marcos this college town gem offers table seating tickets and a full line up of shows Wednesday through Saturday.
Broken Spoke – For the most part we try to keep Austin related places off of this website, and on our Austin Website, but this is one of the legendary country music venues in the area. It’s also located just a few miles away from our home base
Llano Country Opry They only have one show a month. It’s a good one, but we have not been able to make it to this venue to check it out yet.
Pecan Street Brewing The place to be in Johnson City. Every Sunday starting at 6:00 they feature a county act.
Home to some great country and hard rocking Texas Blues, the Texas Hill Country has plenty of great music venues and music festivals throughout the region.
John T. Floore Country Store – Located in Bandera Texas, this is one of the main attractions in this small but very cool town.
